Why This Match Matters
Seoul come out of the bye level on 54 points with Suwon FC, who are second because they lead on goals scored, 53 to 52, and who lost 1-0 at home to Chungnam Asan in Round 30 while Seoul rested. Round 29 had already cut Seoul's deficit on that first tiebreaker from five goals to one, and the model now gives Seoul a 34 percent chance of the top two, up from 23 a week ago. A win at Yongin lifts that to about 50 percent. A draw drops it to about 25, a defeat to about 16. Kim Do-gyun's verdict after Gimhae was that Seoul have to win every remaining match for there to be hope. This is the first of the four, and the only one of them away from Mokdong before the last day.
Seoul E-Land Squad News
Son Hyuk-chan is suspended. His booking against Gimhae was his fifth caution of the season, and under the league's 2026 rules that brings a one-match ban. He came on at halftime against Gimhae and scored the first goal of his career, so Seoul lose a player in form.
Cards. Baek Ji-woong and Kim Oh-kyu are still on four cautions, one from a ban. Oh In-pyo is on three and Osmar on one. Park Chang-hwan, on eight after serving bans at five and eight, is two from his next.
Kim Oh-kyu has not played in either of the last two matches, and the club has not said why.
Bae Seo-jun came off at halftime against Gimhae. No injury has been reported, and the change looked tactical: Son Hyuk-chan went on at left wing-back and scored.
The bye. Seoul have a fortnight between matches. Their last bye, in Round 17, was followed by a 2-2 draw at Suwon FC.
Predicted XI Basis and Fitness Watch
The lineup graphic is a best read, not a leaked team sheet.
Why this shape
The 3-4-3 with Caio Marcelo, Osmar and Baek Ji-woong has started twice and Seoul won both, 2-1 against Daegu and 6-2 against Gimhae. There is no reason to change it for a trip to the 13th-placed side. With Son Hyuk-chan suspended, Bae Seo-jun is the natural left wing-back, Oh In-pyo stays on the right, and Park Chang-hwan and Yoon Seok-ju stay in the middle. The front three of Alan Carius, Park Jae-yong and Euller scored or set up five of the six against Gimhae.
Selection watch
- Bae Seo-jun or Kim Joo-hwan at left wing-back. Kim Joo-hwan started on the left against Daegu and Gimpo but did not play against Gimhae; Bae was preferred there and came off at halftime.
- Kim Hyun as a second striker. He scored the sixth against Gimhae and set up the winner at Gimpo, both off the bench.
- Ahn Joo-wan as the impact substitute on the left; he had a shot on target within two minutes of coming on against Gimhae.
- A back four. The 4-3-3 that won at Gimpo is the alternative if Kim Do-gyun wants an extra man in midfield.
Opponent Scouting Report
Yongin FC are in their first season, one of three new clubs alongside Gimhae and Paju that made this a 17-team division. The club held its founding ceremony on January 4, set itself the goal of reaching K League 1 by 2030, and hired a famous face as technical director, Lee Dong-gook, with Kim Jin-hyung as general manager. The manager is Choi Yun-kyum, appointed by the city in July 2025, a veteran of Bucheon, Daejeon, Gangwon, Busan, Jeju and Chungbuk Cheongju. A top-ten finish was described as the realistic target for this first season. They are 13th, and since 42 points is the most they can finish on, against Hwaseong's 45 in sixth, they can no longer reach the playoffs; the race for tenth, with Cheongju, Seongnam and Paju just above them, is what is left.
Who to watch. The Brazilian Gabriel now leads the scoring with eight league goals, after both at Cheongju; Seok Hyun-jun has six, Choi Chi-woong four, Yoo Dong-gyu and Lee Seung-jun three. Kim Bo-seop is the creator, with six assists, and he has played all 28 matches. Choi Young-jun has worn the captain's armband in every match since September 5. Goalkeeper Hwang Sung-min was hurt in a collision with Suwon FC's Frizzo on September 5, was in and out of the side after that, and started again against Ansan.
The pattern. Yongin draw. Twelve of their 28 matches have finished level, second only to Chungbuk Cheongju's 14, and at Mireu Stadium they have won only twice, 4-1 against Gimhae in April and 2-0 against Busan in August, with seven draws and five defeats. Their recent problem has been goals: four in their last five matches, two of them at Cheongju, and none in two of their last three at home.
The Ansan collapse. Yongin were level 0-0 at halftime at home to Ansan on October 17 and lost 4-0. Kim Bo-seop's back-pass gifted Lima the first on 49, Yongin pushed up to chase it, and Ansan scored three more on the counter, Lima finishing with a hat-trick in stoppage time. A Gabriel header was ruled out for offside. Yongin had 55 percent of the ball and three shots on target to Ansan's ten. Choi Yun-kyum apologised to the home supporters, said the fault was entirely his, and said that the team could not carry on as it was and that change was needed. A week later Yongin won 2-0 at Chungbuk Cheongju.
Availability. Lee Gyu-dong, sent off against Gyeongnam in September, is back in the squad. Lim Chae-min has six cautions and a red card this season and Gabriel five cautions. No Yongin player was booked at Cheongju, so the four regulars on four cautions, captain Choi Young-jun among them, all arrive available, and Yongin have nobody suspended.

How Seoul E-Land Match Up
The only previous meeting is a warning. At Mokdong on May 16, Yongin led through Choi Chi-woong's finish from a corner on 12 minutes, Euller's deflected shot levelled it on 67, Park Jae-yong had a goal ruled out by VAR for handball on 88, Seok Hyun-jun headed Yongin back in front in stoppage time from Kim Bo-seop's cross, and Baek Ji-woong saved a point with a header from Euller's knock-down at a corner in the eighth minute of added time. Seoul needed every minute of it.
Seoul are a different team now. They have won three in a row, scored nine in the last three, and are 8 wins, 4 draws and 2 defeats away from home this season. Yongin conceded on the counter when they had to chase the Ansan match, and from a corner in the last minute against Seoul in May, and those are exactly the routes by which Seoul scored most of their six against Gimhae: an equaliser from a corner, a free kick, and goals once the match had opened up. With Caio (192 centimetres), Osmar (191) and Baek Ji-woong (188) in the back three and Park Jae-yong (191) up front, Seoul have four tall targets for every corner, and Kim Hyun (192) on the bench as a fifth.
The risk is the familiar one. Seoul conceded first against Gimhae, both Gimhae goals came from crosses, and Yongin's creator, Kim Bo-seop, crossed for Seok Hyun-jun's stoppage-time header at Mokdong in May. A side that draws twelve times a season is comfortable keeping a match level, and if it is still 0-0 at the hour, Seoul will have to break down a team with nothing to lose.
Strategy That Can Work
Start fast and make Yongin chase. Their worst performance of the season came when they had to open up against Ansan, and their manager has promised changes, which usually means a team still finding its shape. Seoul's front three thrive when there is space behind; the first goal creates it. Then keep scoring: every goal is a tiebreaker goal now, and the gap to Suwon FC is one.
Keys to a Seoul E-Land Win
1. Score first
In the reverse fixture Yongin led within 12 minutes, Seoul did not equalise until the 67th, and the point needed a header eight minutes into added time. Against Gimhae they did it again on 20 minutes. Do not do it a third time.
2. Defend the crosses
Kim Bo-seop has six assists and set up Yongin's second goal at Mokdong in May with a cross, and both of Gimhae's goals at Mokdong came from crosses. Bae Seo-jun, or whoever plays at left wing-back in Son Hyuk-chan's absence, has the hardest defensive job on the pitch.
3. Use the set pieces
Euller's corners and free kicks and the four tall men in the box have become one of Seoul's most reliable sources of goals, and Seoul's stoppage-time equaliser against Yongin in May came from a corner. Against a deep block, dead balls are the shortcut.
Things to Watch
- Suwon FC v Ansan the next day, Sunday November 1. Seoul play first, and a win would put them three points clear of Suwon FC overnight.
- Who replaces Son Hyuk-chan at left wing-back.
- Whether Kim Oh-kyu is back in the squad.
- The changes Choi Yun-kyum promised after the Ansan defeat.
- Suwon Samsung at Daegu, kicking off two and a half hours after Seoul.
- Seoul's goal count. The tiebreaker gap to Suwon FC is one.
Forecast vs the Market
The model makes it 45 percent Seoul, 30 percent draw and 25 percent Yongin, with 1-1 the likeliest single score (14 percent), 2-1 to Seoul the likeliest win (9 percent) and a 30 percent chance of a Seoul clean sheet. The first version of this preview quoted the site's older model at 70 percent for Seoul. From Round 29 we use the fuller Run-In Predictor, which gives recent form less weight and expects more draws, both backed by its test on this season, and Yongin draw more than most. Before Round 30 it made this match 47, 30 and 23. Yongin's 2-0 win at Cheongju moved it two points their way, and none of their four regulars on four cautions was booked there, so nobody misses this match. When this preview was first written, two weeks out, we found no bookmaker market for this fixture. This version was refreshed after Round 30.
Bottom Line
Seoul should win this, and the last time they played Yongin they needed the eighth minute of stoppage time to draw. Yongin have nothing left to play for but tenth place, were taken apart at home by Ansan a fortnight before this match, and won at Cheongju in between. Seoul have won three in a row and scored nine in those three. The question is not whether Seoul are better. It is whether they score first, and how many they score after that.
Prediction: Yongin FC 0-2 Seoul E-Land. One from a set piece before halftime, one on the break after Yongin come out.
